PM visits Ovibeja; declares agriculture to be ‘strategic’

Portugal’s prime minister, Luís Montenegro, considers agriculture to be a strategic sector. Giving a speech today at the opening session of Ovibeja agricultural fair, he said the government has already started giving “more political weight” to the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, and upgrading its relationship with the Ministry of Environment. The two will “work together because it is together and in balance that the two issues have to be dealt with”. Portugal has to be a country “that is concerned with environmental sustainability, with climate change, but also concerned with production”, he said.
