Police detain four in swoop on anabolic, stimulant trafficking ring

Portugal’s PJ police has detained four people in an operation in the Greater Lisbon area aimed at breaking up a network trafficking anabolic and sexual stimulants, with the cooperation of authorities in Germany and Spain, the force revealed today.

The operation involved searches of five residential premises and five non-residential premises, in which “thousands of packages of anabolic substances (oral and injectable) were seized, as well as sexual stimulants, syringe needles, cartons, parcel packets and computer equipment used to process and dispatch bulk orders, said a statement.

The value of the substances seized in this investigation by the PJ’s National Anti-Corruption Unit (UNCC) is around €350,000. Also seized were €50,000 in cash, two high-end vehicles, personal protective equipment and a wooden baton.

The four detainees, who are aged between 26 and 36, are suspected of the offences of trafficking in prohibited substances and methods, and criminal association.

They have already been brought before a court for questioning, with the judge ordering that they be barred from contacting each other.
