Portugal’s judicial police managed to foil drug traffickers once again, this time seizing around 800 kilos of cocaine of high purity hidden among crates of bananas on a ship that came from Colombia. In a statement, the PJ said that the seizure was made on Friday by the National Unit for Combating Drug Trafficking, which carried out a crime prevention operation in the port of Setúbal. “The cocaine was concealed in boxes of bananas, packed on pallets in one of the holds of the ship,” said the statement. Following the seizure, a formal criminal inquiry has been opened. According to the PJ, the seizure was carried out “in close co-operation with Colombian authorities.” PJ police have reported multiple ‘drug seizures’ in recent months, a number of them from merchandise entering the country from South America.
