Police help ‘rescue’ beggars’ dwarf rabbits

Police in Lisbon, supporting the city’s Animal Ombudsman (‘Provedoria dos Animais’) and SOS Coelhos Portugal (SOS Rabbits Portugal), have ‘rescued’ (for this read ‘removed to an animal refuge’) eight dwarf rabbits which were being used by two beggars in Lisbon to ingratiate themselves with passers’ by. The issue of beggars encouraging people to give by ‘displaying cuddly animals’ is being addressed ahead of the tourist season.
