Police may start search

PORTUGUESE police were this afternoon (Wednesday, June 13) allegedly preparing to search land near Portimao following a report in a Dutch newspaper about the alleged whereabouts of Madeleine McCann.

An anonymous letter, received by De Telegraaf on Monday, identifies the place where, apparently, Madeleine is buried.

It is thought to be a rocky, deserted scrubland area.

The information was taken seriously by the Dutch police in Amsterdam, where a spokesman confirmed that the document was investigated by experts and then sent to the Portuguese police investigators.

Full details were not given, only that it gave some indications of the location of the “body” and that “she is buried 15 kilometres” from the resort of Praia da Luz, “under branches or stones”.

The Dutch newspaper also reports that the letter might have been written by the same person who, in June 2006, gave information on the whereabouts of two girls who were missing in Belgium. Stacy and Nathalie were found dead some hours later in a location that was just two kilometers away from the previous tip off.
