Police raid unlicensed arms factory in Arcos de Valdevez

Operation Polícia Sempre Presente (police always present) – Páscoa em Segurança (safe Easter) began at 6am today with a raid on an unlicensed arms factory. Two men have been arrested – one in his 60s, the other in his 30s, and so much ‘explosive material’ discovered that the operation may well not be concluded today, say reports. The arrested men are suspected of illegal possession, production and commerce of explosive products, and the possession of illegal weapons. In all, there were two house searches in this operation, and five of warehouses in the district of Viana do Castelo. Over 50 police agents were involved, as well as experts in defusing explosives.
