Police taser immigrant after he “tried to slit wife’s throat”

Son’s frantic call: “My father wants to kill my mother!”

PSP police arrested an Indian man in Olivais, Lisbon, in the early hours of Wednesday morning after a frantic phone call in which the man’s son could be heard screaming that his father wanted to kill his mother.

The understanding is that the 41-year-old man tried to slit his wife’s throat while she lay in bed.

Somehow, the woman managed to avoid the worst of the attack, being slashed across the ear before running into the night, along with her teenage son, to escape further injuries.

The son, also hurt after he tried to help his mother, raised the alarm with a neighbour, who is the person who made the emergency call to authorities.

“For reasons yet to determine, the man used a kitchen knife to try and cut the throat of his companion”, writes Correio da Manhã today.

The suspect ended up being arrested by PSP police, and will be presented before a magistrate to hear bail conditions (if any).

According to one online report, the suspect “tried to kill himself”, which is why police resorted to the taser.

The injured woman was transported to Hospital de São José in Lisbon.
