Portimão gears up for weekend of Superbike action

Three days of high-octane action at Algarve International Racetrack (AIA)

The Superbike World Championship will make its highly anticipated return to Portimão this weekend (August 9-11).

Taking place at the Algarve International Racetrack (AIA), the Pirelli Portuguese Round will be the seventh race of the Superbike season.

Turkish racer Toprak Razgatlıoğlu (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) holds a dominant lead in the championship standings with 10 consecutive wins to his name. If he wins in the Algarve, he will join Álvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) and Jonathan Rea (Pata Prometeon Yamaha) as the record holders for most consecutive Superbike race wins (11).

The Portuguese Round is also an opportunity for Razgatlıoğlu to avenge his second-place finish in 2023, which saw Álvaro Bautista emerge victorious in what was considered “one of the 10 best races in the history of the championship,” according to the AIA’s promotional press release about the upcoming race.

In the Supersport category, Adrián Huertas will defend his 46-point lead over Italian Yari Montella, while Inigo Iglésias leads in Supersport 300, and Maria Herrera is the frontrunner in the WorldWCR women’s championship.

The racetrack is also promising many other activities to enjoy alongside the races.

Tickets for the race are on sale on the racetrack’s website, with prices starting at €20. Under-18s can enter for free.
