23 cruises will visit Portimão in April and May alone
Portimão Council has announced that the local port will welcome 56 cruise stopovers in 2024, with 23 of them scheduled for April and May.
These stopovers will bring “tens of thousands of passengers” to Portimão, the local authority says, adding that the town has been “cementing its privileged position” between the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.
Thirteen stopovers are planned for this month and 10 for May, with May 14 standing out as a particularly busy day when the port is due to welcome three cruise ships: National Geographic Explorer, Hamburg and Seadream I.
In terms of passenger numbers, the local council has highlighted the Norwegian Dawn (2,340 passengers – May 11), Carnival Legend (2,680 – June 10), Norwegian Pearl (2,394 – November 18), Norwegian Star (2,348 – December 4) and Explora II (1,473 – August 15 and October 12) as those what will bring the most people to Portimão.
The council also highlights that “emblematic ships” will also be stopping over in Portimão, from the Sea Cloud Spirit (May 19) and Seven Seas Voyager (June 17) to the Royal Clipper, which will return to Portimão this Sunday (April 21) after having already been here on Tuesday.
Says the local authority, “all this movement contributes strongly to the Algarve’s tourist promotion, dynamising the regional economy.”
