Despite the wet weather, around 1,000 people took part in a walk against cancer that was held on Sunday, October 20 in Portimão, between Alvor and Prainha.
The event was held for the first time and was divided into a race and a leisure walk, attracting people from all over the Algarve.
“The people who took part in this initiative helped create a ‘pink wave’ that was extended throughout the country to highlight that it is possible to have a healthy life after overcoming breast cancer and that it is extremely important to detect it early on,” Portimão council said in a statement.
Every year around 6,000 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed in Portugal.
