Portimão’s International Masters Futsal delayed until 2025

This year’s edition will not be held due to “scheduling reasons”

International Masters Futsal, the friendly tournament which every year brings top futsal teams to Portimão, will not be held this year.

The news was confirmed in a statement released by Portimão municipal council, which organises the event alongside Sigma Stars.

“Due to scheduling reasons, there will be no International Masters Futsal in 2024, given that the World Cup will be held between September 14 and October 6 of this year,” the organisers say, adding that the “the right conditions for the popular tournament to take place with the same standards of quality and excellence that the public is used to” have not been secured.

The 2023 edition was won by Kairat Almaty

However, the event is guaranteed to return in 2025, with organisers promising to announce “several surprises” in the coming months.

The International Masters Futsal tournament has become one of the sport’s most popular pre-season tournaments, consistently attracting top teams. In the 2023 edition alone, prestigious clubs such as SL Benfica, Sporting CP, SC Braga, Kairat Almaty, Anderlecht and Palma Futsal participated in the event.
