Portimonense: Long way back

Portimonense began their pre-season preparation with a 1-0 home defeat to second division Sporting Covilhã and will be hoping to improve on that result during this Sunday’s return fixture.

Henrique Jocú, a promising 19-year-old Benfica ‘B’ midfielder, has become the latest signing for manager Paulo Sérgio, but winger Fahd Moufi could be on his way to Bordeaux if the two clubs can agree on a fee said to be around the €2.5 million mark.

The Algarve’s only top tier representatives will begin the 2021/22 campaign at Vitória de Guimarães in a month’s time followed by a first home game with Gil Vicente.

Stand-out fixtures at the Municipal Stadium this season against Porto, Benfica and Sporting Lisbon are scheduled for early December, March and May respectively.
