Portimonense: Stalemate

Liga Bwin: Portimonense 0-0 Vizela

Portimonense and Vizela largely cancelled each other out resulting in over 90 minutes of pedestrian football which left even the most partisan fans in search of positives.

Despite manager Paulo Sérgio’s team enjoying almost 70% possession, scoring chances were far and between with a 24th-minute Angulo shot from distance providing the only real opportunity of the opening half.

The visitors might have taken the lead after the restart when Samuel produced a fingertip save from Zohi. Thereafter, a late Portimonense charge following the introduction of Renato Junior, Luquinha, Aylton Boa Morte and Fabrício, brought about a flurry of half-chances all of which Vizela keeper Charles dealt with confidently.

The point gained keeps the Algarveans in sixth place behind Braga, who also drew, but a lot more creativity going forward will be needed come Sunday evening if Portimonense intend to prevent unbeaten Benfica from having a field day at the Stadium of Light.
