Porto Bay opens largest Algarve resort with 660 rooms

Opening in July 2025, the resort will consist of the Ocean Blue and Falésia hotels.

The Porto Bay group is set to open a new hotel in Albufeira this July named Blue Ocean. It will feature 350 rooms and will be connected to the existing Porto Bay Falésia, which offers 310 rooms, thus creating a resort with a total of 660 rooms. This will be the largest in the Algarve.

“At Porto Bay Falésia, we had a transfer and exploration contract set to expire next year. We attempted to purchase the hotel, but the Humbria Brazão family, who own it, were not interested in selling,” says Antonio Trindade, president of the Porto Bay group. “As an alternative, we became partners, acquiring a 50% stake in the ownership of two hotels (including a unit next door owned by TUI), which Porto Bay also operates.”

“It represents the largest investment in Portugal for 2024, amounting to approximately 130 million euros,” states António Trindade, emphasising that the two hotels, although interconnected, are distinct and target different audiences (Falésia focuses more on sports, while Blue Ocean centres on leisure).

Among the investments the group is making in new units, the Old Town Funchal stands out—a five-star boutique hotel situated in the historic centre of the Madeiran capital, where work has already begun.
