Around 40 immigrants from Bangladesh were involved in a violent skirmish outside a building close to Porto’s Santo António Hospital on Saturday. Clubs and iron bars were used. At least one man suffered head injuries. Police called to the scene managed to ‘identify’ two of the men, while the others fled. The two identified had, say reports, been “recently involved in another situation of confrontations”. According to Correio da Manhã today, the incident was sparked by “political differences”. Porto has been suffering recently from immigrant issues. Comments over social media point to ‘no arrests having been made’. “Have any politicians or the president criticised this wave of violence? No! Hypocrisy! If an immigrant gets a kick up the backside all politicians are quick to react. But if 40 immigrants run through the streets with knives and clubs, everything is fine???”
