The number of passengers passing through Portugal’s airports in the first half of the year was up by 5.2% on a year earlier to 32.9 million, according to data from National Statistics Institute INE released today. According to INE, Lisbon airport handled 50.8% of all passengers, which corresponds to 16.7 million and an increase of 5.3% on the same period in 2023; Porto airport accounted for 22.8% of all passengers handled, at 7.5 million, up 5.8% on a year earlier, while Faro airport saw a 3.3% increase in passenger movements, totalling 4.3 million. “The United Kingdom was the main country of origin and destination of flights, having recorded increases in the number of disembarked (+2.5%) and embarked (+2.9%) passengers compared with the same period of 2023,” INE adds. “France and Spain ranked 2nd and 3rd as the main countries of origin and destination.”
