Portugal Blues Challenge disputed in Faro

Four bands take the stage at the Teatro Lethes this Saturday, December 9, to win the chance to represent Portugal in the European Blues Challenge next April.

The second edition of the Portugal Blues Challenge is taking place this Saturday, December 9, at 21h00 at the Teatro Lethes in Faro.

Four finalist bands will have 20 minutes to perform in the evening before a specialised jury. The band with the most votes will represent Portugal in the 12th European Blues Challenge, organised by the European Blues Union at the beginning of April next year in Braga.

According to the organisation, this year’s edition broke application records, with ten bands competing in the Challenge.

The Portugal Blues Challenge finalists are:

24 Robbers Swing Band

One of the few “Vintage jazz” bands in Portugal, the 24 Robbers Swing Band is known across “Lindy Hop” dance floors, where its “Swing” rhythms make it impossible not to dance. Initially created just for dancers, it didn’t take long to captivate wider audiences.

Mabelle Blues Band

The Mabelle Blues Band brings together people who love to play the blues. Elsa Frias and Vasco Finuras decided to get together, write songs and invite other musicians on this journey through the blues.

Gringo’s Washboard Band

Gringo’s Washboard Band was born to break barriers and be the voice of blues lovers. Guto Krainski, band leader, needed to break the musical “sameness” and connect the public to the deep roots of the blues, translating the New Orleans soul.
