Portugal is cracking down on the arrival of foreigners from at risk countries – requiring quarantine for 14-days as well as the presentation of negative Covid tests.
The announcement has come from the ministry of internal administration which this morning announced that the flight suspension in place between UK and Brazil is to continue until April 15.
Said the communiqué: “In the context of the epidemiological situation provoked by the SARS-CoV-2 virus the government has decided to prolong restrictive measures on air traffic until 23.59 on April 15, 2021”.
But the punch line came later.
These restrictive measures “will also be applied on land borders, with the obligation of anyone arriving from UK, Brazil, South Africa or any other country with an incidence rate of more than 500 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (as is the case of France and Italy)”.
With commercial flights currently suspended between Brazil and the UK, the only passengers coming in are on ‘repatriation flights’. These too will have to spend 14-days in prophylactic isolation once they have cleared the airport, despite the requirement of presenting a negative Covid test taken in the 72-hours prior to embarkation.
The only passengers exempt from these new rules are children under the age of two.
