Despite Prime Minister Luís Montenegro’s guarantees that Portugal is open to welcoming immigrants “but not with doors wide open,” the government has admitted that it needs more immigrants to carry out the works financed with European funds on time.
“The government is preparing measures, particularly in this specific construction sector, to facilitate the entry of immigrants,” Portugal’s deputy minister of territorial cohesion Manuel Castro Almeida said during a hearing at the Budget, Finance and Public Administration Committee in parliament.
