Portugal has set a new record in the production of electricity from renewable sources, environmental NGO Quercus has revealed. In 2014, green energy accounted for 62.7% of the total amount of electricity consumed – raising the level set in 2013 by 6%. Taking national production as a whole, renewables now account for 63.8% of energy produced and have slashed the need for imports back to levels at the turn of the century.
