Portugal today “strongly and actively” supported the call by the United States, Egypt and Qatar for the conclusion of a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, where tens of thousands have been killed and many thousands more maimed since Israel retaliated for the October 7 massacre waged by Hamas. Hopes now are for a conclusive meeting between alongside negotiators on August 15. The European Union is equally behind the call, saying it is imperative that the “cycle of unsupportable suffering” in Gaza is brought to an end.
