Portugal will contribute US$300,000 a year to the new Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty, launched today by president Lula da Silva of Brazil at the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro. Prime minister, Luís Montenegro, at the summit, made the announcement saying: “Our commitment is firm, as will be our investment. Portugal will contribute around 10% of the cost of running the Alliance Support mechanism, US$300,000 (around €284,000), at least until 2030.”
