Portugal will be using Cristiano Ronaldo’s image rights to promote itself as a tourist destination in China, the Secretary of State of Tourism Adolfo Mesquita Nunes has announced.
The 12-month deal starting in November will cost the government €150,000 but Mesquita Nunes believes the expense is “justifiable”.
He stressed that China is poised to become “the biggest tourist market of the world” but Portugal is still not a very popular destination for Chinese tourists.
Further details on Portugal’s promotional campaign are to be revealed at Shanghai’s Tourism Festival next month.
