Portugal’s no.1 tennis player wins Australia Open debut

Portugal’s number one tennis player Nuno Borges, currently ranked 66th in the ATP ranking, made his Australian Open debut on Monday with a 7-5, 7-6, 6-2 victory over Maximilian Marterer of Germany (98th).

Nuno Borges is now to face Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (ranked 23rd) in the second round.

In his own first-round match, Fokina beat France’s Constant Lestienne (84th) 6-4, 6-4, 7-6.
