Demonstration featured several Air Force aircraft
The Portuguese Air Force held an air show along Portimão’s famous Praia da Rocha beach on Sunday afternoon (July 7) to end its 72nd anniversary celebrations in the municipality.
The air show featured several aircraft, from planes to helicopters, in a demonstration of the Portuguese Air Force’s capabilities, which attracted even more crowds of people to the already busy beach. Among the highlights of the day was a demonstration of the Air Force’s F-16M fighter aircraft.
Between June 29 and July 7, the Air Force called Portimão home and hosted a series of events in the borough to celebrate its anniversary, from a walk/run event at Portimão’s racetrack, which attracted 900 people, to a display of aircraft along the town’s riverside area. Over 520 people also had the opportunity to fly onboard a KC-390 military transport aircraft.
Another highlight of the programme was a military ceremony held on Saturday morning (July 6), attended by Portugal’s defence minister Nuno Melo. Speaking at the event, the minister thanked the Air Force’s personnel for their hard work and promised “more investment” in its people and resources.
