Portuguese artists join 35th anniversary event of fall of Berlin Wall

Five Portuguese artists and two classes from the Portuguese Language and Culture course will take part in one of the initiatives celebrating the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall by painting posters.

The seven posters will form part of an outdoor exhibition, including signs and banners, which can be seen on November 8 and 9.

A total of 5,000 pieces will be displayed along part of the route of the 4km wall that passes through the Bradenburg Gates and Checkpoint Charlie.

“These artists were given the challenge of representing in a poster what they think of freedom, democracy in Europe […].

The posters are very different from each other, each author has represented this motto in a completely different way,” emphasised Patrícia Salvação Barreto, Cultural Counsellor at the Portuguese Embassy in Berlin. The Portuguese artists taking part are Jorge Lopes, Carolina Serrano, Sofia Seidi, Inês Cabral and Márcio Carvalho.
