Portuguese emigration to UK “keeps slowing down”

Portuguese emigration to the UK fell by 41% in the 12 months to September this year, according to official statistics published by the British government. The Ministry of Labour revealed that 5,343 Portuguese registered with British social security between October 2022 and September 2023, 40.8% less than in the previous 12 months (9,024). The decline has been accentuated since 2020, following the Covid-19 pandemic and the UK’s exit from the European Union (EU).
