Portuguese wedding ‘fixer’ under surveillance in Denmark

A Portuguese woman linked to hundreds of ‘lucrative’ sham marriages is now under surveillance in Denmark.

Tabloid Correio da Manhã claims the woman is suspected of having ‘fixed’ as many as 685 marriages between Portuguese women and Asian men between 2012 and 2015.

The weddings took place in Ireland, where the woman operated with another ‘fixer’.

But with the increased Irish police investigation that succeeded in “smashing” her business partner’s empire and seeing him deported, the woman decided to leave Ireland.

It’s believed she could be operating a similar scheme now in Denmark.

Explains the Sun, the original scam centred on receiving hefty payments to arrange marriages which gave men from Banglasdesh, India and Pakistan the right to live and work in Europe.

Since the woman left Ireland, the number of marriages involving Portuguese women in the country has reduced by 96%.

What is uncertain however is what will happen to the woman (as yet unnamed) who is believed to be operating out of Denmark’s Aero Island – classified as the northern country’s “most romantic island” and one where people frequently go to tie the knot.

Irish police have told the Sun that they are working closely with the Danish authorities.
