Preliminary Madeleine case files now with Public Prosecutor

POLICE INVESTIGATING disappearance of Madeleine McCann have sent their preliminary report to the Public Prosecutor in charge of the case at the Portimão court.

According to police sources, quoted by Portuguese news agency Lusa, the report includes details of the forensic analysis of samples taken from the holiday apartment and several hire cars and the testimonies taken by investigators, including Kate and Gerry McCann.

The couple, who are now under arquido status, have to inform the Portuguese authorities if they change their address under the allied Termo de Identidade e Residência (TIR).

For the first time, the Portuguese Minister of Justice has commented on the case, while going into a meeting in Brussels under the Portuguese European Union Presidency.

Alberto Costa said he has “total confidence on the PJ’s work” and that now “it is time for courts to decide”.

The minister said the “PJ is being very competent and has all the resources it needs”.

Before entering the meeting, Alberto Costa expressed his desire to see the case closed, adding: “What we all want and what we all need is to see this case clarified.”
