President Marcelo has today officially amended the law brought in under PS Socialists creating, what the new government termed “certain burdensome and disproportionate restrictions on private initiative in the sector”. What it means is that condominiums will in future have to justify any opposition residents may have to any short-term rentals within their complexes, by citing “repeated and proven practice of acts that disturb the normal use of the building, as well as acts that cause inconvenience and affect the rest of the condominium owners”. Otherwise, they will simply have to put up with the fact that they have no control over the comings and goings in their condominium. Curiously, the president’s announcement on the official page of the presidency did not refer in any way to the amendment, nor its connotations.
