President convenes Council of State to decide on political situation in Madeira

Having heard all the political parties with seats in Madeira’s regional parliament today, President Marcelo has convened a Council of State for January 17, ostensibly to “discuss the political situation” in the autonomous region. According to reports, all the parties have said they want elections as ‘soon as possible’. Thus the Council of State is likely to decide solely on what date is best, bearing in mind these are elections coming hot-on-the-heels of elections held last year.
