President Marcelo sponsors Algarve reforestation initiative

Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa has officially sponsored the Algarve’s reforestation initiative entitled ‘Operação Montanha Verde’, which has planted thousands of trees in areas consumed by wildfires since 2016.

The initiative was granted the official President of the Republic sponsorship (Alto Patrocínio da Presidência da República), considered one of the most prestigious ‘seals of approval’ in Portugal.

Backed by the Zoomarine theme park, the initiative started two years ago when 5,000 trees were planted in Silves. A year later, the number doubled (10,600) and saw trees being planted in Silves and Loulé.

This year, the reforestation campaign will be carried out on November 23 in Silves, Loulé, Portimão and Monchique, and aims to plant a record 21,000 trees.

Anyone who would like to take part in the reforestation campaign can sign up online (https://tinyurl.com/OperacaoMontanhaVerde2018).
