Portugal’s president, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, will head the country’s delegation at an international peace summit that Ukraine is organising in relation to its war with Russia, and which is scheduled to take place in Switzerland in mid-June.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by Portugal’s prime minister, Luís Montenegro, at a joint news conference in Lisbon with Ukraine’s president, Volodomyr Zelensky, who is on a state visit to Portugal.
The peace summit, which is to be hosted by Switzerland’s president, Viola Amherd, follows a series of four earlier international meetings in the wake of a 10-point peace plan unveiled by Zelensky in November 2022.
