An outbreak of diarrhoea and vomiting left 38 inmates in need of medical attention at Coimbra prison on Saturday, July 12.
Most of those affected were treated by INEM medical teams at the prison establishment, but two had to be taken to hospital for further treatment.
The reason behind the outbreak is still unknown, although a similar situation happened about over a month ago at the prison, allegedly due to a virus.
