A newly delivered prisoner to Faro jail tried to escape within 10 minutes of arrival, writes tabloid Correio da Manhã today. The incident happened on Friday, at the processing area in the jail. “The fugitive ran through various areas of the prison before reaching a disused tower, and barbed wire fence. He was stopped from climbing the fence by guards. The prisoner, from North Africa, threatened the guards with death and tried to escape again, but in vain”, concludes the paper. President of the National Synidcate of Prison guards, Frederico Morais, has confirmed the incident with noticiasaominuto, stressing that the “great lack of prison guards is putting security of jails at risk, and as a consequence, (security of) populations.
