Luz Saúde has taken over the Hospital de Loulé group
Private health group Luz Saúde is expanding to the Algarve, having taken over a hospital and four clinics in the region.
Reports online newspaper ECO, the deal also includes the acquisition of health units in Lisbon, Porto and Covilhã.
The deal is still awaiting a favourable decision from Portugal’s Competition Authority (AC), the group says in a statement to the press, adding that this strategic move is facilitated by an agreement with C2 MedCapital, the majority shareholder of the acquired units. If all goes according to plan, the deal is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2025.
Luz Saúde’s debut in the Algarve comes through the acquisition of the Hospital de Loulé group. This network includes the Hospital de Loulé and four additional clinics located across the Sotavento (Eastern Algarve) region: Clínica do Plaza in Tavira, Centro Clínico de Almancil, Clínica Internacional de Vilamoura, and Clínica Internacional de Olhão.
The group has also taken over a building under construction in Covilha, as well as Centro do Bebé – a company described as a pre- and post-partum centre – in Lisbon and Porto.
With these additions to its portfolio, Luz Saúde will own nearly 40 health units in Portugal, ECO adds.
“With a business volume of over €25 million, the portfolio of units purchased by Luz Saúde increases the potential for synergies within the Hospital da Luz network, namely by expanding health services to the entire southern region of the country,” says the group, which is owned by Fidelidade since the fall of the Espírito Santo Group.
