Pro-Palestine activists vandalise ministry of foreign affairs

Activists smashed windows and painted a Palestinian flag

Portugal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) was vandalised in the early hours of this Friday morning by alleged pro-Palestinian and climate activists.

The activists smashed windows and painted a Palestinian flag on the building’s façade, the ministry’s press office has told Lusa news agency.

“I can confirm that windows have been smashed and that a Palestinian flag has been painted on the façade” of the building, a source from the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed, adding that “a complaint has been made to the competent authorities” about the incident.

In a statement sent to Lusa, the Collective for the Liberation of Palestine said that a group of demonstrators committed the acts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, smashing windows and painting a Palestinian flag as well as the date June 8 on the façade.

The text claimed that they are protesting “against the inaction and complicity of the Portuguese government” regarding the situation in Gaza.

The same statement explains that June 8 was painted on the façade to raise awareness about the ‘Unidos contra o Colapso’ (United Against Collapse) march, which will take place this Saturday in Lisbon at 3pm.

The march is being staged to demand that the institutions of the European Union and European governments sever all relations with Israel.
