Portugal’s centre-right PSD party (rising in popularity as PS Socialists fall) today presented its view of how to ‘fix’ the housing crisis. The package involves giving people “ample subsidies” towards meeting rental payments; State guarantees to help the youngest citizens and a generalised reduction of taxation in the sector. Among the measures is the idea that the government comes up with the 10% that first time buyers have to put down on any property in order to have a mortgage… The focus being on solid measures, instead of what the party calls the government’s “vague and generic policy” that has upset a number of operators in the sector, short-term rental property owners particularly.
