Months after the fatal shooting of a Cape Verdean chef Odair Moniz in Cova da Moura, public prosecutors have formally accused the PSP agent who pulled the trigger of murder – requesting that he be suspended from duty.
Right now, the agent is on extended sick leave (he has been since the shooting), and there are disciplinary proceedings underway both with IGAI (the general inspectorate for internal administration) and the PSP.
This incident initially saw the PSP put out a press release on the shooting that has since been shown to have not been entirely truthful. The death of Moniz, along with the PSP justifications for the shooting, sparked a wave of unrest in the capital, with enormous criminal damage and terrible injuries to one Carris Metropolitana bus driver.
