PSP alerted to “school massacre” in Santo Tirso

Pupil threatens massacre in series of posts over Instagram

A 16-year-old pupil of Escola Tomás Pelayo, in Santo Tirso, sparked panic over the weekend after writing over Instagram that he was planning a school massacre to get back at bullies who, he claimed, had been targeting him.

According to reports, the youngster wrote: “I will realise a school massacre. All of you who have ridiculed me, bullied me, rejected and attacked me, your time has come…”

Alerted to the posts that appeared on Instagram (one other with the message: “Every day that passes, the desire to embark on a school massacre increases”), PSP visited the pupil’s home, spoke with the teen’s mother, and searched the premises. No weapons were found.

Correio da Manhã tabloid says that the pupil’s mother “assured” that her son is receiving psychological support, and will continue to do so.

PSP police in the meantime, as well as the PJ and Public Prosecutors, will be ‘accompanying the situation’.

According to Jornal de Notícias, the Public Prosecutor’s Office will be performing its own psychological evaluation of the pupil, who has been temporarily suspended from school.

Bizarrely, the youngster returned to social media after the visit from the police, to apologise for what he called “a joke in poor taste”. ND
