Monchique’s only local radio station has made a deal with the Renascença Group in light of financial constraints.
Monchique’s only local radio station, Rádio Fóia, is set to stop transmitting and “hand over” its frequency (97.1) to Mega Hits radio, which is part of the Renascença group.
The request for this change, made on September 6, 2023, recently received the “green light” from the Regulatory Entity for Social Communication (ERC). The radio’s management made the request as they faced financial difficulties due to a decrease in advertising revenue.
Before long, listeners tuning in to the 97.1 frequency from Monchique will enjoy the predominantly musical content that Mega Hits is known for on its other stations in Lisbon, Gondomar, Aveiro, Braga, Coimbra, Sintra, and Viseu.
As a result, fans of Rádio Fóia can expect a major shift in the music genre played, with Mega Hits focusing on a younger listener base. The existing regional programmes, football broadcasts, and other local shows will be substituted with Dance, Urban, and Hip-hop music.
However, after the ERC’s deliberation, Mega Hits Algarve will continue to provide three daily news services in cooperation with Rádio Foia, focusing on regional events and issues at 11h, 15h, and 21h, every day of the week.
