October was a good month for the region’s hotels with occupancy rates at 60.9%, representing a 7.9% increase on figures for the same period last year.
Provisional data from Algarve hoteliers association AHETA shows the number of tourists from a number of countries was also up. There were 57.7% more Germans and 31.7% more French enjoying the region’s sunblest Indian summer. UK travellers also grew (1.4%) but the number of Portuguese holidaymakers dropped, along with trippers from neighbouring Spain (down 7.5% on last year’s figures).
The most significant boosts in occupancy rates came in the areas of Portimão/Praia da Rocha (up 14%), Lagos/Sagres (+12.7%), and Vila Real de Santo António/Monte Gordo (+9.6%) – while the areas with the best rates overall were Vilamoura/Quarteira/Quinta do Lago (66.8%) and Albufeira (65.6%).
