The south coast and mountainous regions of Madeira Island are under red warning till Tuesday due to the forecast of heavy and persistent rain because of the passing of storm Oscar. The red warning is the most serious on a scale of three, and has been issued by IPAM meteorological institute which has also issued an orange warning for the north coast. The weather phenomenon expected is dubbed “atmospheric river”, explain reports, as it is likely to bring “significant rainfall”, especially from this afternoon until around the same time tomorrow afternoon. Populations have been warned of the risk of landslides/ rockfalls.
