In October, Portimão hosted the BLiP Expo 2024, showcasing services and products for foreigners residing in Portugal. The exhibition’s theme, “A Better Life in Portugal”, was well reflected by Emetry Health, a company that presented an innovative remote health monitoring system. Remote monitoring kits enable daily monitoring of a person’s health status, which is especially important for those living abroad who want to maintain their well-being and effectively manage health concerns.
Emetry Health remote monitoring system consists of purposefully chosen smart medical devices that enable daily health measurements at home. It routinely tracks vital signs like blood pressure, heart rate, body weight, sleep patterns, steps walked, blood oxygen saturation, and blood glucose levels. Tailored to individual health needs, the system benefits a range of users – from children to the elderly – addressing for prevention and conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and other chronic illnesses.
Sarah Patstone, holistic therapist in the Algarve, who has lived in Portugal for eight years and has been using a remote health monitoring kit for some time, says she is surprised by the possibilities it offers:
“I’ve never been much into technology. I didn’t even wear a watch, actually, until I had this. So, it’s all new to me. But the things you can monitor – I wake up in the morning, check how I slept, my blood pressure, pulse, and steps – it’s been really beneficial. I noticed that on days when I felt exhausted, my daily step count was very low. This showed that I was mentally exhausted and needed to move more,” says Sarah.
The data collected from the different devices is automatically transmitted to a database where it is processed, analyzed and conveniently displayed in the patient’s account. The data presented in the interactive reports provides valuable insights that would normally be difficult to spot.
“The installation at home was a really simple process and I did have help from the company. You get your smartwatch, blood pressure monitor, scales, pulse oximeters or other needed devices. All you need to do is take measurements,” adds Sarah.
Once a month, users receive a report with insights and comments from doctors about their health and how they can better achieve their wellness goals. Interactive dashboards allow healthcare professionals to view and analyze both current and historical activity.
Another Emetry Health user, Manuel, explains that for him, it’s essential that the system alerts him to potential health risks: “Emetry Health provides an app that can be installed on phone and computer. It is easily accessible and very intuitive, offering real-time health information for each user. I am excited to be informed daily about vital signs of my body through these devices, which alert me to potential health risks,” says Manuel.
The data can also be easily shared with family members or healthcare professionals, providing peace of mind and a reliable way to support those who matter most.
