Renewed focus on earthquakes catalogues every single one…

A renewed media focus on earthquakes – since Portugal’s largest quake in decades last week – is seeing every single one being mentioned, even when they are so insignificant (and absolutely normal) that ‘usually’ the detail would have not even elicited a passing glance. For anyone curious as to how many tremors the mainland and regional archipelagos experience, see ipma.pt and click on ‘atividade sísmica’. Alternatively, hear that Benavente suffered a 1.9 tremor yesterday, and Sesimbra one measuring 3 on the Richter Scale early this morning. As with the ‘largest earthquake in decades’, the result was that the crushing majority of citizens slept through both.
