A slew of sexual harassment claims against respected Coimbra university professor Boaventura Sousa Franco and his colleague Bruno Sena Martins has seen both suspended from all activities while investigations are underway. The ‘scandal’ hit the headlines last week with the publication of a book “Sexual Misconduct in Academia – Informing an Ethics of Care in the University” was published by three former students, denouncing an atmosphere of sexual harassment against women by both men, jointly running the Centre for Social Studies. Since the publication of the book, published by Routledge, other alleged victims of the two men have come forwards. Professor Sousa Franco has said the allegations are “a distortion” and “falsification of reality”.
