The rise in infant mortality in Portugal has today seen nurses and doctors call for the creation of a working group, pointing out (yet again) that there is “a lack of human resources in the SNS (state health service)”. The exponential increase in infant and foetal deaths has been seized on by CHEGA which is calling for explanations. Carlos Cortes, president of the Order of Physicians, has added to the unrest swirling over state health care by suggesting that the data “mirrors the quality of healthcare in Portugal and the state health service”.
