The risk of poverty in Portugal has risen again putting 60,000 more people at risk – a reality that has mainly affected women, reveals the report Portugal, Social Balance 2023. According to data, the at-risk-of-poverty rate increased by 0.6 percentage points between 2022 and 2023, from 16.4% to 17%. It means that in 2023 the number of people living at risk of poverty exceeded 1.77 million. The news follows data on the rising numbers of homeless in the country, even in areas previously unaffected by this level of social drama.
