This evening in inner city Lisbon there is a public session to discuss ‘the insecurity’ that has become prevalent in various neighbourhoods. “State of Alert – Insecurity in Santa Maria Maior” begins at 6pm in Hotel Mundial and seeks ‘concrete measures’ to tackle the rise tide of robberies and assaults, drug-taking, vandalism, squatting, attempted rapes, rapes and even murders, principally in the neighbourhoods of Alfama, Baixa, Castelo, Chiado, Mouraria and Sé. Most of these areas are ‘tourist attractions’, thus the need to find a solution could not be greater. Tonight’s meeting is being hosted by the parish of Santa Maria Maior.
