Robbery at luxury mansion in Vilamoura nets over a million euros worth of goods

Family were “at home” during ordeal

A Hindustani family, living in a mansion valued at around €15 million in Vilamoura, was robbed of more than a million euros worth of cash, jewellery, watches and other objects on Monday.

At no time during the ordeal did the intruders use violence or show any form of firearm. They ‘threatened and coerced’ the family members, all the time keeping their faces covered, and wearing gloves, so that there is little trace evidence for police to work on.

At least, this is the gist of the story today in Correio da Manhã, which potentially links the robbery to others that have taken place in the recent past.

The paper does not specify at what time on Monday the assault took place, nor how the intruders gained access.

“The intruders invaded the mansion, which is equipped with a sophisticated security system, and obliged the owners to hand over an elevated quantity of money, jewellery and other valuable items”, says the paper – explaining that the “victims were threatened and coerced to hand over objects of the greatest value, but they were not harmed. The thieves acted with their faces covered and with gloves on. They performed in a surgical manner, and did not exhibit any firearm. They fled rapidly”.

There is no hint as to the nationality of the intruders/ any particular accents they may have had.

CM says the victims “presented a complaint to the GNR in Vilamoura. The case “has been handed over to the PJ’s southern division, which has already realised various diligences in the luxury home that is valued at around €15 million”.

As far as the paper says it has understood, “authorities suspect the robbers could be related to other millionaire heists that have taken place in Quinta do Lago and Vilamoura in recent months”.

Two of these are given as examples :a break-in at the Quinta do Lago home of a British woman, Carolyn Radford, in August of 2022 (so not that recently), and the theft of a luxury watch from a British tourist in Vilamoura Marina last August. The tourist tried to resist and was hit over the head with the butt of a gun, adds the paper.
